THE BEFORE
The Starting Point
When the home was listed, the primary bedroom was staged with a light, neutral palette that emphasized its generous size and abundant natural light. However, the low-profile furnishings and isolated window treatments left the tall walls feeling largely unanchored, while the bed wall lacked the warmth and architectural presence needed to become a true focal point.
The redesign began with a desire to create a softer, more restorative retreat—one that embraced the room’s height, warmed its neutral foundation, and felt layered without becoming visually busy.
The Design Story
The primary bedroom was designed as a quiet counterpoint to the energy of the rest of the home—a space that would feel warm, restorative, and visually calm at the end of the day.
A floor-to-ceiling wood-slat wall creates architectural depth and draws attention to the room’s height, while the curved upholstered bed softens its strong vertical lines. Full-length linen curtains connect the different window heights and filter the abundant natural light without making the room feel heavy.
Layered neutrals, muted green accents, warm wood tones, and softly diffused lighting complete the room. The result is peaceful and elevated, but still comfortable and approachable: a bedroom designed to help the body settle and the mind grow quieter.
Key Design Decisions
CREATE A FLOOR-TO-CEILING FOCAL POINT
Vertical wood slats introduce warmth, texture, and architectural depth while drawing the eye upward and celebrating the room’s generous height.
UNIFY THE WINDOWS
Full-length linen curtains soften the shutters, visually connect windows of different sizes, and filter the natural light while preserving the room’s airy quality.
SOFTEN THE STRONG VERTICAL LINES
The curved upholstered bed provides a graceful contrast to the linear accent wall, creating a focal point that feels both structured and inviting.
